ASDC, in collaboration with the Cloud-Aerosol Lidar and Infrared Pathfinder Satellite Observation (CALIPSO) mission, announces the release of the CAL_IIR_L1- Standard-V2-00 data product. Version 2.00 of the Imaging Infrared Radiometer (IIR) Level 1 product is the first major revision since the initial release in 2006. The calibration procedure has been adjusted to reduce known small seasonal calibration biases in the Northern Hemisphere, which were caused by thermal drifts synchronized with the elapsed time since the night-to-day transition. The product is available from June 13, 2006 to current. The Version 1 standard and expedited data products will continue to be generated and provided to the public. Information about this data product, including data availability, user documentation and quality statements, relevant links, sample read software, and tools for working with the data, etc. can be found at the following ASDC link: https://eosweb.larc.nasa.gov/project/calipso/calipso_table.

ASDC and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) announces the public release of Version 006 of the Airborne Multiangle SpectroPolarimetric Imager (AirMSPI) Level 1B2 data products for the ObseRvations of Aerosols above CLouds and their intEractionS (ORACLES) flight campaign. AirMSPI flies in the nose of NASA's high-altitude ER-2 aircraft. The instrument was built by JPL and the University of Arizona and is aimed primarily at remote sensing of the amounts and microphysical properties of aerosols and clouds. AirMSPI Level 1B2 products contain radiometric and polarimetric images of clouds, aerosols, and the surface of the Earth. This release of AirMPSI data contains all targets acquired during the ORACLES flight campaign, including the check-out and transit flights. GHRC DAAC

NASA's Global Hydrometeorology Resource Center Distributed Active Archive Center (GHRC DAAC) has published two datasets from the Global Precipitation Measurement Ground Validation (GPM-GV) program.

  • GPM-GV Micro Rain Radar (MRR) Olympic Mountain Experiment (OLYMPEX) dataset. This dataset contains measured and derived data from MRR instruments placed in four separate locations within the study region. The MRR is a Biral/Metek 24 GHz (K-band) vertically oriented Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FM-CW) radar that measures signal backscatter from which Doppler spectra, radar reflectivity, Doppler velocity, drop size distribution, rain rate, liquid water content, and path integrated attenuation are derived. Data were collected from October 31, 2014 through May 22, 2016, during OLYMPEX.
  • GPM-GV United States Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service Soil Moisture Iowa Flood Studies (IFloodS) dataset. A total of 15 stations were deployed near the South Fork River in North Central Iowa. The soil moisture probes measure hourly instantaneous measurements of the real dielectric permittivity, soil temperature, bulk electrical conductivity, and volumetric soil moisture. This dataset also consists of precipitation amount, air temperature, relative humidity, vapor pressure, wind speed, wind direction, and solar radiation measurements. Data were collected from April 17, 2013 through June 4, 2013, during the IFloodS Field Experiment.

GHRC DAAC has published the Hurricane and Severe Storm Sentinel (HS3) Scanning High-Resolution Interferometer Sounder (S-HIS) dataset. The S-HIS instrument measures emitted thermal radiances that are used to obtain temperature and water vapor profiles of the Earth's atmosphere in clear-sky conditions. Due to the S-HIS scanning capability, the instrument provides 2 km resolution (at nadir) across a 40 km wide ground swath when flown at an altitude of 20 km aboard NASA's Global Hawk unmanned aircraft. S-HIS data were collected during the 5-week HS3 field campaign study periods in the 2012 to 2014 Atlantic hurricane seasons.
