True-color corrected reflectance image of fires and smoke in Siberia, northeastern Russia. This image was acquired by Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) aboard the joint NASA/NOAA Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) satellite. This image is in the Arctic Polar Stereographic projection and north is pointing down. Fires and thermal anomalies are shown as red points on the image, and smoke is visibly emanating from the fire locations.
